MARAYOOR: Two were arrested in connection with the murder of an old man. The arrested has been identified as Midhun (29) and Anbazhagan (65). The body of Mariyappan (70), of Ambadi Bhavan, was found inside a bag by the roadside. The murdered Mariyappan is the father of Marayoor panchayat member and former panchayat vice president Usha Thambidurai.

On Monday evening, Mariyappan went to Anbazhagan's house and had drinks together. Midhun, who is a neighbour, also joined them. All three got heavily inebriated and a dispute broke out regarding the purchase of more alcohol. This dispute ended in the murder of Mariyappan as Anbazhagan and Midhun hacked and stabbed him to death. Following this, they tied and carried him in a plastic bag and left his body 150 metres away.

The dead body was found on Monday morning but couldn't be identified initially. The presence of sacred thread on the body lead to Mariyappan and the police confirmed he was missing. Within hours, the statements of witnesses lead the investigation to Anbazhagan and Midhun.

The police collected evidence with the presence of the accused. The knives used for murder was recovered.
