KOCHI: The police are questioning K M Ali Makkar, 54, a native of Paipra village, who runs Aleena Tours and Travels in Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam, arrested for conversion of religion after sexually abusing a Christian girl, a native of Kanjaar in Moovattupuzha. It is learned that he had also tried to convert another employee of the Travel Agency office in Kuruvilangad, Kottayam. The native of Kanjaar was given the charge of the office in Kuruvilangad. She told police that he sexually abused her while working in his office.

The woman from Kanjaar was staying in private hostel here. She was entrusted to help tour packages given to people from different areas on weekends. Under the cover of it, Ali also travelled with her and abused her many times.

He later told her that if she converts to his religion, he would bring good proposals for her. Ali who was in the Gulf earlier, opened the office in Moovattupuzha five years back. He had cheated many people in the pretext of arranging tickets abroad. In his office, he appoints women from poor financial background. She joined the tour agency last April. She was first appointed in Moovattupuzha and later in Kuravilangad.

When the police intensified the probe following the complaint of the native of Kanjaar, he fled to Bengaluru. When he was short of cash, he returned back. His plan was to collect money and then flee the place. The police team understood his move and took him into custody from Methala. The police was behind him when he reached Thrissur and Kunnamkulam areas, but somehow he escaped from them.

The woman told police that he abused her sexually for almost one and a half years after taking her to Goa, Mysuru and Wagamon. She told police that he forced her to convert to his religion. She resigned her job later. Ali then reached the woman’s house and started threatening her. As the woman was afraid to go to Moovattupzha and file the complaint, she filed the complaint at the Kanjaar police station on February 18. The case registered in Kanjaar police station was handed over to Moovattupuzha police.

A police team led by Moovattupuzha circle inspector M A Muhammed, sub inspectors Basheer, T M Soofi, ASIs P C Jayakumar, R Anil Kumar, CPOs Sanal V Kumar and R Anil Kumar are in charge of the probe. He was taken to the resort in Wagamon where he sexually abused her. The police will question him in detail for trying to convert her to his religion.
