PUNALUR: An adivasi girl gave birth to a baby on the roadside in the middle of the forest at Achankovil. Sheets of clothes brought from the nearby house were tied around the place for privacy and she gave birth to the baby inside this temporary arrangement.

The mother is Sujaitha (22) hailing from Adivasi Girijan colony. The incident happened on Tuesday at around 7:30 night.

As she developed labour pain at her house, she informed the Adivasi promoter. As there was no ambulance readily available in the place, she was sent with her husband Ananthu and relatives in a hired private jeep to Punalur government Taluk hospital.

But when they reached Pallivasal on Achan Kovil-Chenkotta forest path, Sujitha’s pain increased. They immediately stopped the jeep made screens using the borrowed cloth and she was helped to deliver the baby. It is a Babyboy.

After taking rest for three hours, the mother and child were taken in the same jeep to Punalur government Taluk hospital.
Three years ago Sujitha had delivered her first baby (girl) in her house.

There are complaints that though there are two ambulances at Achan Kovil, they are often not available for help on time.
