ALAPPUZHA: The CPI on Friday expelled three of its members for pasting posters against state secretary Kanam Rajendran. The three members have been identified as CPI Ambalappuzha constituency secretariate member Lalji, AIYF Ambalappuzha constituency president Jomon and secretary Subeesh. The action to rip off the primary membership of the three was based on the report submitted by the party's inquiry commission to the district committee.

The controversial incident took place on July 26 in 2019 when the posters demanding the removal of Kanam Rajendran were seen outside the CPI district council office and other parts of Alappuzha. It must be noted that the posters were pasted soon after Kanam had justified the police for beating CPI members including MLA Eldo Abraham during the CPI March in Ernakulam. Earlier, the party had expelled three other members including the leader of Kisan Sabha in connection with the incident.
