KOTTAYAM: The recent mysterious deaths are not the only controversy in connection with 'Puthujeevan'. The local residents here recall a one-year-old who went unconscious for two days on consuming a tablet that fell out from a window of the rehabilitation center.
The incident dates back to one and a half years ago. The tablet that fell out of the rehabilitation center was consumed by Nimisha's one-year-old son. The child was taken to a private hospital in Thiruvalla where he laid unconscious for two days in the ICU.
The incident sparked controversy and a petition was lodged by the local residents. The medical expense of the child was undertaken by VC Joseph, a retd. head constable. The window opening towards the house was shutdown. The local residents also complained that waste from the rehabilitation center is creating health problems.
Three inmates of the Puthujeevan Trust Rehabilitation Center died under mysterious circumstances in the past week. Before death, they were shifted to a hospital due to fatigue and discomfort.
Health Minister KK Shailaja has sought for a report on the incident. Thrikkodithanam Police has registered a case for unnatural death.
Puthujeevan Trust Rehabilitation Center is run by VC Joseph, a former head constable who voluntarily retired. There are 72 inmates including mental patients. There are 3 doctors and 39 staff to treat them.
