ROME: Around 85 Indian students including Keralites are stranded in Italy. The students are of the University of Pavia in Italy. They are stranded as the flights to India have been cancelled following the outbreak of coronavirus.
Of the 85 students stuck in Pavia, four are from Kerala, 15 from Tamil Nadu, 20 from Karnataka, 25 from Telangana and two from Delhi and one each from Rajasthan, Gurgaon and Dehradun.
A non-teaching faculty member of the University tested positive for corona. 15 other staff members are under observation. The virus is spreading to Europe and Gulf countries. The virus has now spread to 64 countries and has killed nearly 3000 people. There have been over 85,000 cases of virus.
2870 have lost lives in China, the epicentre of the virus, 17 in South Korea, 29 in Italy, 43 in Iran, six in Japan, two each in France and Hongkong, one each in America, Taiwan, Australia and Philippines. Six passengers of Diamond Princess off the coast of Yokohama, Japan died of the virus. Although deaths are decreasing in China, the situation in South Korea, Italy and Iran is concerned. The number of people infected with the virus in these countries is also increasing.
