THRISSUR: Jumbo Thechokkottu Ramachandran will be here this year also to open Thekkegopura door and announce Thrissur pooram.

Captive Elephant Healthcare and Welfare Committee meeting has decided to revoke the ban on parading Ramachandran.

The decision is to take him out for procession two days in a week in Thrissur and Palakkad districts under strict conditions.

Throughout the days when the elephant is being paraded, there should be presence of elephant squads and examination of expert doctors.

Sufficient rest and treatment should be continued.

In February last year, when Ramachandran was brought to Guruvayur for

Grihapravesham’, he ran amok and killed two persons after getting embarrassed by bursting of crackers. This was followed by the ban.

Later in the face of protests, Ramachandran was allowed to be taken to Thekke Gopura main gate for Pooram announcement for one-hour and that, too, not without certain conditions.

For years Thecchikkottu Ramachandran, which has aged now, has borne the thidampu of Neythalakkavu Bhagavathy, opened the Thekke Gopura gate and announced the Pooram.
