THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Kadakampally Surendran came down heavily on the protestors in connection with the death of a passenger during a KSRTC strike. There is no justification for the strike held yesterday and what the protestors showed was disrespect. Strict action will be taken and those drawing salary from the government exchequer showed this act, the minister added. The strike by KSRTC is a war against the government, he said.

Inquest on the body of Surendran, who collapsed and died yesterday, will be held at the medical college hospital today. The report of the district collector on the incident will be handed over to the transport minister on Wednesday. Transport Minister A K Saseendran said that as soon as collector’s report on the flash strike is obtained, will move on with the steps to be taken.

A lightning strike was staged yesterday following the arrest of assistant transport officer Lopez. The strike began at 9 am after three KSRTC employees were arrested for blocking a private bus bound for Attukal temple. A scuffle broke out between private bus employees and officials of KSRTC. A verbal dispute broke out between the police who intervened to solve the issue and KSRTC officials. ATO Lopez was arrested and taken to Fort Station.

KSRTC employees staged a dharna in front of the station for his release. This later turned to a lightning strike. City and state services were stalled by then. Employees suspended services and joined the strike. In the talks held between the city police commissioner and union leaders, it was decided to release Lopez on station bail. The employees soon called off the strike.
