KOTTAYAM: The inquiry report submitted by the Additional District Magistrate on the deaths in the Puthujeevan trust hospital at Thrikkodithanam has stated that the hospital has been functioning without a proper certificate from the State Mental Health Authority. It was found that the hospital has been functioning by displaying an old license. The report, recommending a detailed inquiry on the 33 deaths in the hospital, was submitted to the Kottayam District Collector. The Collectorate is expected to take action against the hospital today.
Though the institution had initially obtained a license to function from 2016 to 2021, the license was later cancelled due to several complaints. However, ADM Anil Oommen pointed out that the hospital continued functioning by using the old license. The report, which states that food is being prepared in unhygienic conditions, also points out various cleanliness issues in the hospital premises.
Meanwhile, the High Court has asked the District Collector to submit a report on the action taken regarding the 33 deaths in the hospital. Earlier, the Payippad Panchayat had cancelled the sanitary certificate of the hospital after it found that the institution lacked proper sanitation and garbage disposal facilities.
