THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A person here who arrived from Italy is suspected of the infection as the first sample tested positive. However, confirmation can be given only after detailed test results, health minister KK Shailaja said on Thursday.

The minister said though the final result is yet to return, the patient will be considered a positive case. The final test will be carried out at the NIV Lab in Alappuzha. It is learnt that the person is currently under treatment at the Medical College here.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan earlier said that two new positive cases were confirmed in the state, one in Kannur and Thrissur.

The two are fresh cases of infection and not connected with the three-member family, who had returned from Italy on February 29, he said."One person is admitted to the Pariyaram Medical college in Kannur and has a travel history from Dubai. The other person is in the isolation ward at Thrissur General Hospital and has travelled to the state from Qatar," Vijayan told reporters after the daily review meeting.

The chief minister said 270 people are under observation in isolation wards at various hospitals across the state.
