THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that no new cases of the COVID-19 infection were reported in the state on Saturday. Speaking at the press conference, the chief minister said that proper measures have been taken to ensure that the virus does not spread to more people.

At present, a total of 7677 people have been kept under observation for suspected infection of coronavirus. Among these, 7375 people are staying at their respective homes while 302 people are admitted in various hospitals across the state. Out of the 1897 samples sent for tests, 1345 have tested negative.

Meanwhile, Pinarayi stressed on the importance of spreading awareness regarding the virus as the entire world is witnessing an outbreak. "We have decided to increase the awareness programs among the public. Facilities will be increased at airports to facilitate medical check-ups," he added. He further stated that the Health Department would provide special training to new volunteers.

Special centres will be set up near airports so that people from outside the state can stay in case of a need to undergo more tests, he added.
