THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister K K Shailaja has said that strong action will be taken against Medical stores if they sell medicines without doctors’ prescription.

The health minister has come out with this warning following the complaints that, in the wake of Corona scare, some medical shops were giving medicines to people for cold, throat pain, fever and cough, without doctor’s prescription.

“Taking medicines without doctors’ instruction will lead to serious health issues. We have given strict instruction to drug controllers to take action against such medicine shops,” she said.

The minister had also suggested restriction on shops and distributors selling medicines online. “In this case, the Centre should intervene as the State can’t act on its own,” she had said.

Illegal selling of medicines without doctor’s prescription was in the news recently and the minister’s instructions followed this.
