THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even when the government toughens measures to check spread of coronavirus, there will be no question of food scarcity. The foods department has decided to procure and store ration items for two months.
Besides this, SupplyCo will also store provision items for three months. It has also called tender for this. Rice and provision kits worth Rs 1000 will be supplied free of cost to persons who are under observation at their homes.
The supply will be done according to the statistics available with the health department. Non-priority ration card holders will get 10 kg rice for Rs 10.90 from Ration shops.
96665 ton rice and 22088 ton wheat have been stocked for next month’s distribution. Besides this, there are also plans to stock pulses.
The Foods department has given letter to the FCI for this.
Meanwhile Food Minister P Thilothaman has warned of lightning raids and strict action against hoarding of food items in the coming days.
