PALAKKAD: The police have registered a case against a CITU leader in connection with the protest of migrant workers amid the lockdown. The case was registered against Zakkeer Hussain, secretary of CITU migrant workers union in Pattambi taluk.

Zakkeer is accused of urging 400 migrant workers to stage a protest in Pattambi.

The police on Sunday managed to pacify the protesters at the beginning itself. The police are also probing how the workers resorted to a protest.

Meanwhile, Crime Branch IG S Sreejith has been assigned as a district-level nodal officer to acknowledge the problems of migrant workers and to ensure their welfare.

Another case was registered in Ernakulam against contractors-Chembarakki native Abraham and Eldho Abraham-for not providing water and food to migrant workers. They had accommodated 54 workers.
