KOCHI: Kayamkulam MLA U Prathibha has come up with an explanation after her remarks against media workers created a controversy. In a live video on Facebook, the Kayamkulam MLA had said that prostitution is better than journalism.
"Why don't you wash their feet and drink that water", she said.
Her curses didn't sit well in general and the party expressed their discontent.
In a post on Facebook, Prathibha came up with an explanation. In the post, she said the misunderstanding caused is regretful. She also added that the media didn't even show her the etiquette shown towards migrant workers.
"I have always held my nerve. But even innocent creatures would have to respond as an act of self-defense. I only did that. My words were not to everyone in the media. Journalism is a decent social activity. There has been a slump in the quality of the society in general, which happened with journalism as well. My reaction was towards such journalists. There has been a misunderstanding that I tried to insult the media as a whole. For that I express my regret", Prathibha wrote on Facebook.
The Kayamkulam MLA was enraged after her dispute with local DYFI leaders became news. CPI (M), CPI district leaderships denounced Prathibha soon after.
