THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dismissing the reports which suggested that the Prime Minister's call for a nationwide blackout on Sunday can damage electricity lines, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has come up stating that interstate power lines and power grids will not be affected in any way due to the blackout.
Earlier, several media had reported that the simultaneous switching off of lights across the nation can lead to power supply disruption as it can cause damage to interstate electric lines and power grids.
According to KSEB, the average power consumption on Sunday nights is between 3400 MW to 3500 MW. When the lights across the nation are switched off, there will be a reduction of only 350 MW which cannot pose a threat to the electricity lines and power grid. The KSEB also pointed out that a reduction of 200 MW to 300 MW is usually noted in the state when the lights are switched off as part of observing Earth Hour.
