KANNUR: The condition of an 81-year-old man infected of coronavirus continues to be very serious. The man from Cheruvanchery contracted the disease through contact. In the meanwhile, four who were under treatment have been discharged from the hospital.

The 81-year-old man, his daughter and grandchildren had returned from the Gulf. They were placed under isolation at home and did not have any symptoms of the disease. He developed fever and cough three days back and had sought treatment at a private hospital in Kannur. He was later shifted to Kannur Govt Medical College.

Hospital sources said his condition worsened as he had lung and heart ailments. He is now in the ICU. The samples of his daughter and grandchildren will be sent for examination.

This is the first case infected via contact. 53 have been confirmed of the disease in Kannur. 19 have been cured and 10,430 are under observation in the district. 87 are in hospitals. The results of samples of 61 people have to be obtained. The results are awaited.
