NEW DELHI: Latest report says that Malayali nurses who have tested positive for coronavirus at the State Cancer Institute in Delhi are facing a shortage of food and medicines. The nurses are currently admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Hospital. In a video message released by one of the nurses, it is said that the nurses are being kept together at a general ward instead of an isolation ward.
The nurse also said that two children belonging to one of the nurses are also present in the hospital. What is even more shocking is the fact that the doctors there have not subjected these children for COVID-19 test. According to Rince Joseph, president of Delhi United Nurses Association, the hospital authorities are not even allowing anyone to either visit the nurses or provide them food.
Though the nurses had initially informed that they were experiencing symptoms of coronavirus, the authorities of the State Cancer Institute had neither allowed them to test for coronavirus nor asked them to go into quarantine, sources said. Despite sending numerous emails to both Delhi Chief Minister and Health minister, the nurses including a pregnant woman were forced to report for duty due to an increase in the number of patients.
The nurses were finally moved to Rajiv Gandhi hospital after one doctor tested positive for coronavirus. The nurses also alleged that they were not provided with PPE kits despite the fact that the hospital is located at the Dilshad Garden region which is a COVID-19 hotspot.
