WASHINGTON: Two thousand people have died of COVID-19 in the US in the last 24 hours. The highly infectious COVID-19 has killed more than 14,000 in the US. The number of people infected with COVID-19 caused by a novel coronavirus, rose to 15,10,333 on Thursday. 3,19,021 people have been cured of the disease. 88,345 people have lost their lives globally. US has the highest number of patients. 4,30,902 have been infected here.

US President Donald Trump had the other day showered praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi after India pledged to provide Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate tablets to America. Trump also said that US exports of drugs had been hampered because of India's demand, and that the US currently has a collection of 29 million hydroxychloroquine, much of it from India.

Meantime, Italy reported the highest number of deaths. Of the 1,39,422 infected of the disease, 17,669 have lost their lives. Second comes Spain. 60,733 contracted the disease in Britain and 7097 deaths have been reported. 1,12,950 have been infected in France and 10,869 have died. In Germany, 1,09,702 have contracted the disease and 2105 deaths have been reported. In the past few days, few deaths were registered in the European countries but the sudden increase is a cause of concern.

Restrictions have been tightened in the Gulf countries due to the spread of COVID-19. On March 30, the total number of infected in six Gulf States was 3,717. Total deaths were 18. It had touched 8000 by the end of the week and deaths touched 55. More centres are under scrutiny.
