THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Except for the death of a 60-year-old man who was under observation for coronavirus infection in Thiruvalla, Kerala has shown great progress in its fight against the novel coronavirus. Both the Health Department and the state government are relieved by the decrease in the number of coronavirus cases. What is even more promising for the state is the fact that there has been no report of community spread in districts including Kasargod where a large number of positive cases were reported.

The 60-year-old man in Thiruvalla had recently returned from Hyderabad and was under observation when he died due to a supposed heart ailment. According to the health department, his family members are currently under observation and none of them has shown any symptoms of the infection so far. However, the cause of the person's death can be confirmed only after receiving the test result of his throat swab, a health official said. Meanwhile, several patients, who were under treatment for coronavirus in Kasargod district, have been cured of the decease and will leave the hospitals on Friday.

Six patients who were undergoing treatment in Kasargod district and four patients in Kannur will get discharged from the hospitals on Friday. According to sources, the situation in Kasargod district is improving after it received the service of a special medical team from Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and due to an increased number of rapid tests conducted in the district. The lockdown restrictions and home quarantine have also helped in preventing an outbreak of the virus.

As many as 1,36,195 people are undergoing observation in the state. While 12,710 samples have been collected for tests, 11,469 samples have returned negative.
