ERNAKULAM: Taking the Kerala Covid toll to three, the state reported one more death due to the disease on Saturday. A 71-year-old Puducherry native died in Pariyaram Medical College in Kerala's Kannur district.
The dead person was Cherukallayi native Maharoof (71). The patient died before the state health department could fully trace the source from which he had contracted the disease.
He first took treatment from Thalassery Tele hospital after he had fever on March 26. Later he developed breathing trouble and was admitted there on March 31. As condition worsened, he was shifted to Kannur MIMS hospital that day evening. It was here that his disease was confirmed and was referred to Pariyaram Medical College.
He had no travel history but had attended several family events before he became sick. He had, however, mingled with many persons. Among them the samples of 28 persons were sent for testing and none of them tested positive.
Mahroof had gone to mosque and had attended the ‘bride seeing’ ceremony of his son. There are also reports that he had travelled to New Mahe, Panniyannur and Chokli panchayats and took part in marriages.
It is also said he had several relationships in Thalassery. The health department has not released the details of his funeral.
Maharoof is survived by wife Ayisha and daughters Nadhim and Sahala.
