THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Any help is massive in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Sinu Sidharth, cinematographer and producer, has contributed his part by making a low-cost ventilator. In the event of community transmission, there won't be enough ventilators at hospitals. Sinu's ventilator, which is made of electronics and pipe costs just Rs 350.
A note from a nurse in Italy, one of the places worst hit by the virus, motivate Sinu to make a ventilator. In her note, the nurse had said that air was the most desired thing during the virus outbreak. The low-cost ventilator was made within five days. Though his first two attempts failed, the third attempt was successful. Sinu said he is ready to make more pieces of equipment for the health department.
The ventilator can function using electricity, battery and has many features including a remote call system.
The nationwide lockdown was imposed when Sinu's 29th movie 'Kilometers and Kilometers' was about to release. Sinu is no stranger to making equipment. He started off in his tenth standard by making an automatic off switch for his motor that pumps water. He followed it up with many such experiments.
