KOCHI: An ambulance, carrying a one-day-old baby that requires an emergency heart surgery, has set off from Nagercoil to Kochi. The ambulance has been permitted to cross the border following a timely intervention from the Kerala and Tamil Nadu governments.
According to sources, the baby was born with a serious heart condition at a private hospital in Nagercoil. It was soon decided that the child has to undergo heart surgery at Lisie hospital in Kochi. However, due to the nationwide lockdown, the task to move the child to Kochi was deemed close to impossible. Following this, the authorities of Lisie hospital contacted Kerala Cheif Minister's office, Tamil Nadu government and the Ernakulam Collector. Soon, permission to transport the child was granted by both the governments.
The ambulance had started the journey from Nagercoil at 6.30 pm on Tuesday and is expected to reach Kochi by midnight.
