CHENNAI: A recent report suggests that around 75 children from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have tested positive for the novel coronavirus after they came in contact with those people who had returned after attending the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi.

As per the report, the children got infected after they came in contact with their family members who had recently returned after attending the congregation. While Andhra Pradesh has reported that 40 children have tested positive for the virus, Tamil Nadu has reported 33 positive cases. According to the authorities in both states, all the children have contracted the disease after coming in contact with those who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation.

Meanwhile, Telangana also has reported that 25 children have tested positive for coronavirus in the state. Though officials are yet to explain the source of infection, it is learnt that these children might have also contracted the disease from people who had attended the congregation.

It must be noted that ministers of Tamil Nadu and Telangana had already stated that the Nizamuddin congregations made up over the majority of the coronavirus cases in the states. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh is yet to reveal the details regarding the source of the infection.

While Andhra Pradesh has reported 525 coronavirus cases so far, Telangana has reported 647. In Tamil Nadu, 1117 out of the total 1242 people who tested positive for coronavirus had attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation.
