THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has given the nod to register a case against former vigilance director Jacob Thomas for amassing wealth disproportionately. The government order mentioned that the case should be handed over to the vigilance after the crime branch registers the FIR. The government had earlier ordered to conduct a probe against Thomas in a benami property deal in Tamil Nadu. Jacob Thomas had obtained a stay from the high court against it.
His book Sravukalkkoppam Neenthumpol had mentioned about the land in Tamil Nadu. The crime branch had recommended that this land should be seen as an illegal property. The government’s move to register a new case is at a time when he is retiring on May 31. The crime branch will register a new case tomorrow. If a new case is registered, the government can suspend him again.
A probe by the crime branch and vigilance is continuing against Thomas for writing a book without permission and corruption allegation related to the purchase of dredger while serving as port director.
