THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ever since the lockdown was declared, former chief minister has remained cooped up in his room at his Puthuppally house in Thiruvananthpuram, not to while away time fruitlessly but to do something for Malayali diaspora.
On the lines of his Mass Contact programme he conducted when he was the chief minister, Chandy has been active in his room interacting with Malyalis who are stuck in different parts of the world via WhatsApp or Facebook vido chat.
Every day a number of expats call him to express their concern or seek his help for repatriation. The number of call increased when he added his land number also on his Facebook page.
He directly attends the calls that come between 9 am and 9 pm.
Even Malayalis stranded in other states have got the benefit of his helping mind.
Recently he talked to over 200 NRIs in America through zoom application. The sessions began at 9 pm and extended up to 11 pm (IST). This was also propagated through live streaming on the Face book. His office informed that the video conferencing was viewed by more than One lakh people.
He hopes to interact with more NRIs in Gulf and Europe in this manner in the coming days.
