PALGHAR: As many as 110 people were arrested and remanded to police custody until April 30 for allegedly beating three men to death in Palghar district in Maharashtra. Two police officers were also suspended for alleged negligence of duty.
The state government has ordered a CID probe into the case. Speaking about the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that lynchings would not be tolerated and warned that the incident must not be communalized. He also added that he has spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the incident.
The incident took place on April 16 when two Sadhus, Kalpvrush Giri (70) and Sushil Giri(35), and their driver Nilesh were stopped and allegedly attacked by a mob of armed villagers at Gadchinchale village on suspicion of being thieves.
