THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As COVID-19 cases are increasingly seen on returnees from neighbouring districts, the CM has directed to heighten police inspection at the borders. The inspection will be tightened at small roads and forest routes as well. The chief minister's direction was during a video conference with district collectors, SPs and DMOs.

The CM has asked the district collectors to prepare quarantine facilities including separate toilets for returning expats. He has also asked to ensure food for everyone in hotspots. As the centre allowed relaxation on lockdown restrictions, shops in the state opened at places other than hotspots. The conference also analyzed the situation following this.

COVID-19 was confirmed in many persons in Kollam, Palakkad and Idukki who travelled across states. The heightening of security at borders is to put a hold on this. Currently, the police are using drones to check roads leading to borders.

The DMOs have been directed to do extensive COVID-19 tests-at least 3000 tests per day. Six states have demanded an extension in the lockdown. Karnataka and Tamil Nadu said they are ready to accept the centre's decision. Kerala will make a decision after Sunday's review meeting.

The PM has called for a video conference with chief ministers on Monday.
