PILICODE: In a shocking incident, an elderly man was shot dead by a neighbour following a dispute over the burning of plastic waste. The deceased has been identified as KC Surendran, a native of Peelicode in Kasargod district. The youth, identified as Sanal, later surrendered at the nearby police station.


The incident took place near Surendran's house near the Someshwari temple in Peelicode by around 5 pm on Sunday. According to police, Surendran and Sanal got involved in a dispute after the former gathered plastic wastes and burned it near Sanal's house. Following the dispute, Sanal went back to his home, returned with a gun and shot Surendran on his neck. After the incident, Sanal fled the scene and later surrendered at the Cheemeni police station. The police also added that the two families have been involved in a property dispute for over a year.

Surendran, who was running a woodshop, is survived by wife Sukumari, son Sumesh and daughter Sujina. Sanal has been working as a taxi driver.
