KANNUR: Now, it is confirmed that Covid patients’ data was leaked in Kannur. It is reported that the data leaked from the Google Map Application COVID Track, launched by the police.
The district administration’s assessment is that the leak occurred due to the lapses from the side of the police. The district collector has confirmed the data leak.
The Application was created by Kannur Cyber Cell. In this map, details of Covid patients including their phone number was available. Even password was not required to open the map.
The district collector has said that the police could not ensure security of the data and he would submit a report to the government in this regard.
The link of the application was deleted as soon as the information got leaked.
The Cyber Cell is reportedly probing how the data got leaked.
Currently, the district with the highest number of Covid people under treatment is Kannur. 54 patients are under treatment here. Till date, 110 persons were affected by Covid here, according to the stats available with the health department. 2720 are under observation. Among them, 114 are in hospitals and 2606 are in houses.
Kasargod patients’ details had also leaked earlier. It has come to light that the callers were from Bangalore. The patients here are planning to give complaint to the chief minister in this regard.
