KOTTAYAM: Kottayam district, that was considered a green zone a week before. has now been redesignated as a red zone after the district reported 17 COVID-19 cases in the last three days. Within the district, Aymanam, Velloor, Ayarkunnam and Thalayolaparambu panchayats have been identified as hotspots.
With the increasing number of positive cases, stringent social distancing curbs have been enforced in the district. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that there are no active COVID-19 cases in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Thrissur and Wayanad districts.
Among the 13 persons who tested positive for the virus on Monday, 6 are from Kottayam, 4 are from Idukki and one each are from Malappuram, Kannur and Palakkad districts. The CM also added that Idukki's Vandanmedu and Erattayar have also been identified as COVID-19 hotspots.
