KOTTAYAM: The DGP’s order to seal off Red Zone areas has become a head-ache for civil and police officers themselves who are carrying out Covid related activities.
The order has become a literal roadblock for the Covid preventive and monitoring activities of revenue, health, corporation officers and police officers as they are not being allowed to move from one district to another district.
Officers who worked in Vaikom and other areas of Kottayam district after living in Alappuzha districts were blocked by Muhamma police on Thursday. Ironically, among them, there were policemen, as well .
Though the officers could convince Muhamma police of their official duties and need to travel across the district border, the latter were not willing to relent. Finally, the officers had to return home.
After this awkward situation, the policemen informed the Kottayam district police chief about the confusion. As the issue became more complicated, he informed the IG, who in turn ordered Alappuzha district police chief to ask the police officers to stay put at the border.
However, employees of Revenue Municipal department have not been able to get back to their offices. Meanwhile, the situation is also similar with Kottayam based officers engaged in Covid activities in Ernakulam.
