CHENNAI: The Koyembedu Wholesale Market Complex in Chennai is turning out to be a hotspot for COVID-19 infections in Tamil Nadu. According to recent reports, more than 150 positive cases have been linked to the market. Following this, authorities have started tracking all those who had visited the market in recent days.

Koyambedu market, one of the largest fruit, vegetable and flower market in the country, usually witnesses a large number of people including those from other districts. The market even remained open during the first two phases of the nationwide lockdown as several other districts in the state depended on it for fruits and vegetables. However, the market was shifted last week after a trader tested positive for coronavirus.

Following this, several other people who had visited the market tested positive and these people included those people from other districts such as Cuddalore, Villupuram, Ariyalur, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Perambalur. According to authorities, the infected people include vendors, lorry drivers, loaders, labourers and many others.
