PALAKKAD: Police have taken into custody the lorry that destroyed Paliyekkara toll plaza barrier and dashed off, giving police a slip. The lorry and its driver Vinod were taken into custody in Palakkad. The police have taken the driver Vinod into custody.

But, the police were no able to find any trace of spirit in the seized lorry. The statement given by the driver is that the lorry was loaded with tobacco products.

The incident happened the other day at 3 am when the lorry rammed the barrier and sped off reportedly with spirit.

A team led by Excise Inspector Tony Jose had reached the place based on the secret information that the spirit was handed over at Ernakulam-Thrissur border.

As soon as the smugglers, who had reached near the parking lot of a private hotel, saw Excise officials, they fled.

Though an attempt was made to block them at Paliyekkara Toll Plaza, their lorry destroyed the barrier and scooted off.

After this the Excise sought the help of the police. Though the police tried to intercept the lorry at several places, they lost track of it near Mangalam dam.

Only after two days, the police succeeded in taking the lorry and the driver into custody.
