KOCHI: Police waved lathis to disperse about 500 migrant labourers who took to the street at Koothattukulam, demanding that arrangements be made for their return.
The incident happened on Thursday morning. The labourers also shouted slogans while coming on to the roads. They alleged that when workers staying near Koothattukulam got help to return to their home state, no arrangements were made for their return.
Though the police tried to convince the protestors about the situation, the workers were not ready to go back. As the situation was going out of control, police waved their lathis to disperse the crowd. In between, migrant workers from nearby areas also came to join the protestors and the police chased them away.
Meanwhile, the police are trying to find out whether any organisation or individual was behind the protest.
