covid-centres

KOCHI: There are reports that though several days have passed after the return of expats to Kerala, some confusion still persists over the functioning of the observation centres.

Local bodies in their respective districts are in charge of looking after the functioning of Covid observation centres.

A substantial amount is required to run these centres but now there are complaints that the government has not yet allotted money for their functioning.

With this, the local bodies are under pressure to shoulder the responsibility of finding money for the expense. Most of the local bodies have already burnt their fingers by running community kitchens.

The local body authorities have informed the government that they will be in crisis with the return of expats as the observation centres will have to be run for months for them.

The government has informed the high court that it had arranged 1.35 lakh rooms for accommodating all people registered. The local bodies point out it would be beyond their capacity to meet the expenses for facilities including food.

The bed used by a person should not be used by another person and it will have to be burnt down. Each person will have to be supplied with fresh utensils.

In the coming days more such observation centres will have to be opened, which can worsen the situation, they add.
