THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday forecasted that heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning will lash 7 districts in Kerala for the next four days. Following this, the department has issued yellow alerts in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts. Fisherfolks have been warned against going to the sea.

According to IMD, the 7 districts are likely to experience widespread rainfall and thunderstorms till May 15. It also forecasted that isolated places might receive rainfall from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in the next 24 hours.

While a yellow alert has been issued on Kollam district today, yellow alerts were issued for Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts on May 14. On May 15, yellow alerts have been issued for Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki. The IMD has also warned that Thiruvananthapuram district might experience heavy lightning and thunder that can cause damage to lives and electronic goods.
