PATHANAMTHITTA: A pregnant nurse confirmed with COVID-19 gave birth to a baby here at the general hospital. The nurse is a returnee from Kuwait and had quarantined herself at home on returning. She was then confirmed with the disease. The mother and the newborn are healthy. The 26-year-old nurse was working at a hospital in Kuwait where she treated COVID patients.

She returned to Kerala on May 9. Her husband is in Kuwait.

On reaching Kochi, she went to her home and quarantined. The results of the COVID test came on Thursday. On feeling discomfort, she underwent cesarean after taking proper precautions. The girl baby weighs 3.5 kg and there are no health issues, the doctors said.

The mother and baby have been isolated in a special ward. The samples of the newborn baby will be sent for COVID testing.
