THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The students stage widespread protests against the decision of the Kerala University to begin exams on May 21st. The students complain of conducting the exams without arranging exam centers in all districts. The students also pointed that the directive to submit project reports before 29 is impractical.
Students are also worried on how to reach exam centers within the district if public transportation is not started. The students pointed that even though transportation is possible, there will be no accommodation as the college hostels are closed. A decision was taken to restart the exams suspended following the lockdown via the video conference held between the vice chancellor and college principals. A decision was taken to arrange sub-centers for the exams to help students not able to reach the colleges where they were studying. However, sub-centers have been arranged only in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts. The students demand is to arrange at least one sub-center each in all districts for the students stranded in other districts.
The explanation of the university is that the colleges should request for more additional examination centers and the sub-centers cannot be set up in other districts besides these four districts. The vice chancellor said that separate exams will be conducted for students unable to reach the examination center.
