KOCHI: As the water level is rising at the Malankara Dam, shutters will be opened on Sunday morning. The district collector has advised maintaining alert in the area. The shutters will be opened at 6 am.
Three shutters of the dam will be raised 20 cms. The capacity of the Malankara Dam is 42 meters. On Saturday, the water level is at 41.64 cms. Last year, all six shutters of the dam were opened following an uncontrolled rise in water level.
As tributaries of Thodupuzha and Muvattupuzha rivers are likely to have increased flow, Ernakulam district collector Suhas has advised the public to maintain alert. The IMD has forewarned of heavy rains in some parts of the state. Subsequently, a yellow alert has been sounded in many districts.
