THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that Kerala will receive widespread rain on Monday as the cyclonic storm Amphan over the Bay of Bengal seems to be moving towards the Kolkata shore. Following this, a yellow alert has been issued in 10 districts.

The yellow alert is issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram and Palakkad districts.

While fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea, the IMD stated that there will be heavy rain accompanied by lightning and thunder. It also forecasted that the state will experience a storm with wind speed of up to 70kmph.

The IMD also stated that the cyclone Amphan is likely to make landfall in between Sagar Islands in West Bengal and Hatiya Islands in Bangladesh on May 20 as a severe cyclonic storm.
