KOLLAM: An employee at a petrol pump in Kollam was sacked “because she arrived late during a lockdown day”. The woman later sat in front of the petrol pump to protest against the “indiscriminate action” against her.

The incident happened at an Indian Oil pump in Kundara and it was Kundara Kumbalam Aani Nivas resident Prasanna who came out in protest against the action.

Prasanna had been an employee at the petrol pump for the past five years.

In between, though she had taken a break and went abroad for another job, she did return to the pump and rejoined reportedly due to the request made by the pump owner.

She had been working here for a monthly pay of Rs 9000. During lockdown period, she used to go to work riding pillion on her cousin’s bike.

“One day, the management asked me not to come again for work as I had arrived late that day. I came out to protest as I had lost my job. My two months’ salary is also pending,” she said.

Later, officials including labour officer reached the spot to look into the issue.
