KOZHIKODE: Kerala Transport Minister AK Saseendran on Thursday said that the KSRTC is facing huge financial loss by operating services during the lockdown period. The minister also added that he will inform this to the Centre and seek financial aid to support KSRTC during these difficult times.

According to the minister, the state will urge the Centre to announce a special economic package for the KSRTC and a reduction of fuel prices. He also added that if necessary, KSRTC will conduct special services for SSLC, Plus two students from May 26 to May 30. A discussion regarding this has been held with the Education department. Dismissing the reports regarding a possible discussion with private bus owners, the minister expressed hope that the private buses will resume service within 2-3 days.

Though the demands put forward by the private bus owners are valid, the government cannot consider them in the present scenario, he added. He further stated that the government will consider their demand regarding insurance. "We have understood the plight of the private bus owners which is why we have granted concession in road tax for three months," he said.
