THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state could receive monsoon rain much earlier than anticipated. Usually, when monsoon clouds reach Andaman, Kerala should expect rain within two to three days. Going by that, monsoon is likely to touch Kerala shores on May 31.

On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had warned about a twin low pressure over southeast and east-central parts of the Arabian sea.

If it moves to the Kerala coast, there is a chance for heavy rainfall.

“Under its influence, a low pressure area is very likely to form over the same region around May 29. It is very likely to concentrate into a depression over the same region during the subsequent 48 hours,” the IMD update said.

Fishermen have been warned to refrain from fishing in these regions from May 29 to June 4.
