THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An orange alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kannur, Kasargod and Kozhikode districts in Kerala. Yellow alert has been declared in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur and Malappuram districts. The meteorological department informed that the low pressure formed in the Arabian Sea had turned into extreme low pressure. This will intensify into cyclonic storm Nisarga and will enter the coast of Maharashtra tomorrow afternoon. The winds will blow at a speed of 120 kilometres per hour in areas between Harihareshwar and Daman, close to Alibag (Raigad District, Maharashtra).
The weather department has asked the coastal areas of northern Maharashtra and southern Gujarat to be vigilant. Except north-eastern states, the country is expected to receive more rain this year, said department’s deputy director Anand Sarma.
