MALAPPURAM: A team led by Tirur DySP P K Suresh Babu will head the probe on the death of Devika of Walanchery in Malappuram. The 14-year-old girl committed suicide as she was unable to attend the online classes. The case will be investigated by a special investigating team led by DySP. The investigating team was appointed by Malappuram SP U Abdul Karim. The statements of the girl’s relatives and school authorities will be recorded as part of the investigation.
An 11-member team including two women cops are in charge of the investigation. The government had sought a report from Malappuram district education officer. The report submitted mentioned that there are no lapses on the part of the education department and her teachers. The post-mortem reported termed it as a suicide. Steps have been taken to bring television and internet to the student’s home. Nutritious food will be ensured for her baby sister. It will be ensured that all students who don’t have access to e-learning will get it before June 8, said Malappuram district collector K Gopalakrishnan. Though it is termed as a suicide, the investigating team will find the reason for it. Opposition leader Ramesh Chenntihala held the government responsible for her death.
