THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The reporting of four Covid death cases in Kerala for which the source of infection is not known has given heebie-jeebies to the Health department officials. The department still doesn’t have any clue about the source of infection of a person in Kollam who was brought dead to hospital.
The four Covid deaths for which the cause is not known till date are those of Thiruvananthapuram Pothencode native Abdul Azeez, Fr K G Varghese who died on Tuesday, Naiha Fathima (4-month old) from Manhcerry and Kollam Kavanadu native Saviour.
Most of them reached hospital only after their disease took the worst form, because of which life-saving attempts failed. It is not clear whether they had come into contact with persons who had returned from abroad or other states. The health department believes that the four persons might have contracted the disease from asymptomatic patients.
The test positivity rate (the rate of persons turning positive in Corna test) in Kerala is 1.7, which is better compared with other states.
However, unknown source of infection hints at fast spreading of disease through contacts. Health experts point this out as a warning for Malayalis who are currently celebrating lockdown relaxations.
