elephant-death

PALAKKAD: Palakkad native Wilson, who has been arrested in connection with the killing of a pregnant elephant at Silent Valley near Palakkad-Malappuram boarder, has confessed to the police that the explosive was stuffed inside coconut and not pineapple.

Wilson is a tapping worker and farmer who has taken a farm land near Ambalappara for lease. As the police have got the evidence that two others who made explosives also had roles in the murder, they are on the lookout for them.

The initial inference of the police is that what endangered the elephant’s life may be the explosive trap the accused used to kill or scare away wild boar, elephants or other wild animals.

Unfortunately in these areas, it has been a common practice to stuff low-intensity explosives inside food articles and place them near farmlands where wild animals frequent.
