CHENNAI: Recent study conducted by the epidemiologists at the Dr MGR University has predicted that the Chennai city is likely to witness as many as 1.5 lakh COVID-19 cases by the second week of July at the current rate of growth. The study also predicted that around 1600 deaths will be caused by the infection by mid-July. It must be noted that the projections and stats provided by the university are used by the government for surveillance and preparedness.

Tamil Nadu has been witnessing a sharp hike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the past few weeks. Within the last 19 days, the number of COVID cases in the state has increased from 10,000 to 27,256. Chennai city alone has reported 18,693 Covid cases so far.
