THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state has confirmed 107 new coronavirus positive cases on Sunday, health minister KK Shailaja said. Of the new cases, 27 are in Malappuram, 26 in Thrissur, 13 in Pathanamthitta, nine in Kollam, seven in Alappuzha, six each in Palakkad and Kozhikode, four in Thiruvananthapuram, three each in Kottayam and Kasaragod, two in Kannur and one in Idukki.


Among the new cases, 71 persons returned from abroad (UAE-39, Kuwait-21, Saudi Arabia-4, Nigeria-3, Tajikistan-2, Russia-2, Oman-1, Qatar-1, Italy-1), 28 persons returned from other states (Maharashtra-15, Tamil Nadu-7, Delhi-4, Gujarat-1, Telangana-1). Eight persons developed the disease through contact.

Meanwhile, 41 coronavirus patients tested negative for the disease on Sunday. 14 of these patients are in Thrissur (two Palakkad natives), while six are in Kasaragod, five each in Palakkad and Kannur, three each in Kollam and Alappuzha, and one each in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Malappuram, and Kozhikode (Malappuram native).

As of today, there are 1029 patients under treatment for the viral disease at various hospitals in Kerala. 762 persons recovered from the disease.

A total of 1,87,619 persons came to Kerala through various channels (airports-47,033, sea port-1621, check posts-1,20,590, railway-18,375). There are 1,91,481 persons under observation in the state with 1,89,765 at home/institutional quarantine and 1716 at hospitals. 277 persons were admitted to hospitals on Sunday.

In the past 24 hours, 4316 samples were sent for testing. As of Sunday, 83,875 samples of individuals(including augmented samples) were sent for testing. Of the available results, 79,957 are negative.

As part of sentinel surveillance, 22,324 samples of persons in priority group were sent for testing. Of this, 20,362 samples returned with negative results.

Including 5,731 repeat samples, a total of 1,11,930 samples were tested so far.

Six new hotspots were declared on Sunday-Eruvasseri, Udayagiri, Mangattidam and Kuttyattoor in Kannur, Koduvayoor in Palakkad, and Panamaram in Wayanad. Currently, there are 144 hotspots in the state.
